The Threat
Most WLED devices ship with no OTA password. An attacker with the free app + WiFi Pineapple takes your entire installation instantly. No exploit. No brute force. Just taken.
AP Mode is worse: Devices broadcasting WiFi can be claimed from 100 feet away with just the app.

3-step protection
Lights plugged in. Phone or tablet on the same wifi as the controllers.
Step 1: Install on that device
Samsung S20, Galaxy A, other Android: open this page on the phone → download the official APK. Allow installs from the browser, then open the file.
iPhone or iPad: open this page on the iPhone/iPad → join the iOS preview list. The app does not run in a desktop browser.
Step 2: Same wifi as the lights
Join sakenoma wifi for sakenoma LAN access (Starlink Mini in bridge, or the jeep VPN mesh — router packages by hand). The phone and every controller must be on that LAN. Do not stay on a laptop hotspot unless the lights are on it too. The LRC on that truck is testing in production: Cloudflare Access and reliability backup run for you, k3s on Raspberry Pi, no PRC hardware, no SLA. The LRC pays for itself (cluster, Pis, mesh already paid). The owner pays for the jeep: unemployment covers the payment and the insurance.
Step 3: Update from the app (3 taps)
- Open Alien Lights on the iPhone, iPad, S20, or Galaxy A
- Wait for devices to appear · tap Select All
- Tap Update
Done. Galaxy auto-enables. On playa, Zero Trust mode activates. Pineapples can't touch you.
